Can't stand up straight lower back pain?

For the past few days, my lower back pain has been so severe that I can't even stand up straight properly. It hurts so much when I try to straighten or move in any way. It's making even simple daily activities really difficult.

If you are planning to get an MRI, check with government-run diagnostic centers first because private labs charge almost 5000 to 7000 rupees. I saved a lot by taking a doctor's referral to a semi-government setup. First just pay for a basic doctor consultation fee of 300-500 rupees before jumping into expensive scans.

Please book an appointment with an orthopedic specialist at a proper multi-specialty hospital. Ask them clearly if it is a disc bulge or just a muscle spasm before you try any home exercises. They will examine your reflexes and give you the right physical therapy plan.

Ouch, being stuck in a bent position means no standing in street food queues for a while, which is the real tragedy! Seriously though, heavy meals and bloating make back pain feel much worse due to pressure, so stick to light khichdi while you recover. Get well soon so we can eat proper biryani again!

Please do not ignore this or try to just push through the pain like I did. I ignored a similar spasm thinking it would heal on its own, and ended up with a ruptured disc that put me on bed rest for two months. Go get it checked by a proper doctor right now.

Applying a warm sesame oil massage followed by a hot water bag gives great relief for simple muscle catches. But if you literally cannot stand straight or if the pain is traveling down your legs, please don't rely on home remedies. Go straight to an ortho doctor as it could be a nerve compression.

Welcome to the 'walking like a 90-year-old grandfather' club! Don't worry, it usually happens when we suddenly lift something heavy or sleep in a weird angle like a human pretzel. Lie down flat on the floor with your knees bent, it will ease the pressure while you wait for the doctor.
