Can't sleep with cpap?

My doctor recently told me I have sleep apnea and prescribed a CPAP machine. I'm trying to use it, but I just can't get used to sleeping with that mask on my face. It feels so uncomfortable and keeps me awake the whole night.

Haan, starting with CPAP is very tough in the beginning, na. The mask feels so heavy and annoying on the face. Try wearing it for just an hour while watching TV during the day so your mind gets used to the feel of it.

I honestly cried the first three nights because I felt so claustrophobic and defeated wearing that machine. It is completely normal to feel frustrated. Just take it slow, even if you can only manage to wear it for two hours initially.

I used to rip the mask off in my sleep during the first week and panic. But then my technician adjusted the ramp pressure settings, and it became so much easier to breathe. Don't worry, your brain will adapt to it very soon.

Using a tiny bit of lavender oil on your wrists can help you relax while wearing the mask. But if you feel like you are choking or the air pressure is too high, please don't force it. Call your sleep doctor to adjust the machine settings.

Don't try to DIY your CPAP settings or add random padding to the mask as shown in online videos. If it is leaking or uncomfortable, call your medical provider immediately. It is a medical device and needs professional adjustment.

My dad just got a CPAP and he was struggling so much to sleep with it. We realized his mask size was wrong, and once we got it replaced for a nasal pillow style, he slept much better. Definitely check the fit.

Agree with adjusting the mask fit, getting the nasal pillow instead of the full face mask made a world of difference for me.

Since I have type 2 diabetes, managing my sleep apnea with CPAP is extremely important to keep my cortisol and blood sugar levels stable. It took me three weeks to get comfortable, but the health benefits are absolutely worth the struggle.
