Can't sleep pregnant?

Being in my second trimester, sleeping has become quite difficult. I constantly toss and turn, can't get comfortable, and keep waking up for various reasons. Are there any safe positions or tricks to get some decent sleep during pregnancy?

You can try having a warm cup of milk with a little turmeric or warm water before bed, and use a pregnancy pillow. It really helped me stay comfy. But if you have severe itching on your hands and feet or heavy swelling, don't wait and please call your gynecologist immediately.

I totally get it, those long nights when you are tired but just cannot find a comfortable position are the worst. Please don't be hard on yourself if you can't sleep. Just lie down, put on some light music, and try to rest your body even if your eyes are open.

Beta, this is very common during these months, especially in the third trimester when the baby grows. Don't worry too much, just rest whenever you get time during the day. Your body is just preparing you for the sleepless nights ahead with the little one.

Oh god, I remember searching the internet at 3 AM thinking my sleeplessness was harming the baby. It is so scary to feel like you are doing everything wrong. Just hang in there, your body is going through a lot, but do talk to your doctor so you don't keep stressing like I did.

Watching my wife go through this was something else; she tried about fifteen different pillow configurations every night! I think the baby was just practicing football inside at 2 AM. Try to get your husband to give you a foot massage, it works wonders!

I was actually reading about this last night because my sister is struggling with sleep too. Apparently, hormonal changes and a faster heart rate make it really hard to fall deep asleep. It is super common, but definitely mention it during your next regular clinic visit.

When I had this issue, my gynecologist told me that the increased blood volume and progesterone levels naturally disrupt the sleep cycle. She advised me to strictly stop screen time two hours before bed and avoid heavy dinners. Please consult your doctor before taking any over-the-counter sleep aids, even herbal ones.
