Can't sleep on wellbutrin?

I started Wellbutrin a couple of weeks ago, and it's definitely helping with my mood. However, my sleep has completely gone for a toss. I just lie awake for hours every night. Has anyone else experienced this problem with Wellbutrin?

I got so anxious when my doctor started me on this and I couldn't sleep. I kept checking my pulse and worrying it was some bad reaction. It usually settles down in a couple of weeks, but please tell your doctor if your heart keeps racing.

When my sleep got disrupted, my fasting sugar levels started creeping up because of the stress. I had to be very disciplined about my meal timings. Make sure you aren't skipping meals because of the medication, as low blood sugar can also wake you up.

Wellbutrin is quite stimulating, so taking the XL version first thing when you wake up is crucial. If you take it late, it will definitely interfere with your sleep cycle. Give your body about 2-3 weeks to adjust, but let your prescriber know if the insomnia persists.

I faced this exact issue two months ago when my dose was increased. My psychiatrist told me to take it at 7 AM sharp, and after about ten days, my sleep returned to normal. Just hang in there, the initial jitteriness does fade away.

Many people in our support groups face sleep issues in the first few weeks of starting this. I always suggest avoiding any caffeine after noon and trying some progressive muscle relaxation in bed. It really helps calm the physical restlessness.
