Can't sleep on back?
My doctor told me that sleeping on your back is best, but I find it so uncomfortable. I just can't seem to relax or fall asleep in that position. Is it really that important, or can I just stick to my side sleeping?

It is so frustrating when you just cannot get comfortable. I usually drink some warm turmeric milk and do very light stretching before getting into bed. Also, a rolled-up towel under your neck can support the spine better if you are trying to stay on your back.
Honestly, I had this same issue last month after my back sprain. Putting a thin pillow right under my knees made a massive difference. It takes the pressure off the lower back instantly, so do try it tonight.
I hope it is not because of some underlying spine alignment issue, as that always worries me. Maybe try to notice if there is any sharp pain when you lie straight. If it feels okay but just uncomfortable, hopefully, it is just a bad mattress.
Since I have high blood pressure, my doc told me to be careful about sleep positions because snoring on your back can worsen breathing. I shifted to side sleeping and got my regular checkup done. Please check your vitals too if this is a sudden change.

My sleep tracker showed my deep sleep was terrible when I forced myself to sleep on my back. I realized side sleeping with a body pillow is actually much better for my heart rate recovery anyway. You don't have to force the back position if your body naturally rejects it.
