I once ignored severe nasal congestion that kept me awake, and it developed into a serious sinus infection that required heavy antibiotics. If you are also running a fever or have facial pain, please see an ENT specialist immediately rather than waiting.

Gargling with warm salt water and taking hot steam can really clear your throat and nose before sleeping. It is a simple, natural way to get relief. However, if your congestion is accompanied by chest pain or wheezing, please consult a doctor immediately.

When I consulted my doctor for nighttime blockages, he explained that lying flat increases nasal blood flow, worsening the congestion. He advised using a saline nasal spray (not habit-forming ones) and keeping the head elevated with two pillows to allow gravity to drain the mucus naturally.

I suffer from seasonal allergies and steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil right before bed is my ultimate savior. Also, drinking a cup of warm water or herbal tea helps open up the passages. It is so hard to sleep when you can't breathe, I really hope this helps.

Don't struggle silently, buddy. Just sit up for a bit, take a few sips of warm water, and blow your nose gently. Sleep with an extra pillow to keep your head high, it will make breathing much easier. You'll get through the night, just take it easy.

Nasal congestion can stem from various issues like deviated septum, allergies, or infections. While home remedies provide temporary comfort, consulting a general physician or ENT is the best course of action to get targeted treatment. Avoid overusing OTC nasal drops without prescription.
