Can supplements cause kidney stones?

My brother was hospitalized last year due to kidney stones, and he takes many supplements for his joint pain. He's concerned if there's a link. Can taking various health supplements contribute to forming kidney stones?

Please don't ignore this. I kept taking calcium supplements on my own without consulting a doctor, and ignored a mild side ache until it turned into a massive kidney stone emergency. Get a proper checkup and ultrasound done before taking any mineral supplements.

If you are gulping down calcium tablets like they are chocolates, you might end up building a small stone quarry inside your kidneys! Keep the pill-popping in check and drink lots of water, you will be fine.

I panicked so much when I had a sharp side pain after starting Vitamin D supplements, thinking I damaged my kidneys forever. My doctor calmed me down and explained that excess calcium from supplements can cause stones, but stopping the pills and drinking lemon water resolved it.

Hey, don't stress too much. Yes, high doses of calcium or Vitamin C supplements can sometimes cause kidney stones, but it only happens if you overdo it. Just drink plenty of water every day and talk to a doctor to adjust your dose.

Yes, taking synthetic calcium without enough water can cause kidney stones. I always suggest drinking fresh barley water or coconut water daily to naturally flush the kidneys. But please stop the supplements immediately and consult a doctor if you feel sharp pain.

At this age, my body produces more stones than a building contractor because of these vitamin pills! Yes, heavy calcium or Vitamin C supplements can easily form kidney stones. Drink your water and stop taking random pills without a prescription.

Excessive intake of calcium or Vitamin C (which metabolizes into oxalate) from supplements significantly increases the risk of kidney stones. My doctor advised that it is always safer to meet your calcium needs through dietary sources like curd and ragi rather than tablets.
