Can stress raise liver enzymes?

My annual health check-up showed my liver enzymes were slightly elevated, which surprised me as I don't drink. My doctor suggested it could be due to my hectic lifestyle and constant deadlines at work. Does stress actually cause liver enzymes to increase?

Yes, actually it can. I had a super stressful job transition last year and my SGPT/SGOT levels came back slightly elevated during a routine checkup. Once I settled in and started sleeping better, they went back to normal on their own.

While stress can play a role due to hormonal changes, elevated liver enzymes can also point to fatty liver, viral issues, or medication side effects. Please do not assume it is just stress. Get a proper ultrasound and consult a gastroenterologist to be absolutely safe.

Our body holds onto all our emotional toxins, and the liver is where a lot of anger and stress gets stored. Try to stay positive, practice gratitude, and let go of heavy thoughts. Taking care of your mind is the first step to healing your body.

I was just reading some medical articles about this yesterday! Apparently, chronic stress releases inflammatory cytokines that can lead to liver cell damage and elevate those enzymes. It's crazy how much the brain affects our organs.

Yes, stress increases liver inflammation. Try drinking plenty of warm water and avoiding greasy foods when you are feeling tensed.
