Can stress mimic a heart attack?

Sometimes when I'm extremely anxious or stressed, I get chest pains, palpitations, and feel breathless. It feels so scary, like I'm having a heart attack. Can stress actually cause symptoms that are so similar to a heart attack?

Yes, severe anxiety and panic attacks can cause chest tightness and a racing heart that feels exactly like a heart attack. Once my doctor cleared me of any cardiac issues, I started doing 30 minutes of brisk walking daily. It really helps release that trapped nervous energy, but check with your doctor first.

I have seen this question come up so many times in our community. Yes, panic attacks can cause sharp chest pain, sweating, and numbness. However, because the symptoms are so similar, you must never assume it is just stress. Always get an ECG done immediately to rule out anything serious.

It can definitely mimic it, but please do not take any chances with chest discomfort. If you are feeling pressure, radiating pain in your arm or jaw, or shortness of breath, go straight to an emergency room. Let a doctor make the call, do not self-diagnose this at home.

Oh god, yes! A friend of mine went to the ER thinking it was a heart attack, but it turned out to be a massive panic attack from exam pressure. Don't stress too much, but definitely go get a quick checkup just to calm your mind. Once you know your heart is fine, you'll feel way better.

Yes, extreme work pressure and burnout can trigger severe chest tightness and palpitations. If you experience this, take an hour off and go to a local clinic to get your vitals checked. If the reports are normal, then you know you need to seriously manage your workload and stress levels.

Dekho, stress can do weird things to the body, even make your chest tighten up. But heart issues are not something to play around with on the internet. If you are having chest pain, stop reading replies here and go see a doctor immediately. Safe is always better than sorry.
