Can stress cause lower back pain?

I've been having terrible lower back pain, especially when I'm really swamped with work and deadlines. My physiotherapist suggested that stress could be a major factor. Can stress actually cause lower back pain?

I was just reading an article on this yesterday! Apparently, when we are stressed, our body releases cortisol which tightens our muscles, especially around the spine and lower back. It makes total sense because my back stiffens up every time I have a deadline.

I literally just got over a terrible bout of lower back pain that started during a very stressful family situation last month. Physical therapy helped, but honestly, the pain only fully went away when the stress resolved. Do some gentle stretches and rest.

Haan bhai, jab dimaag par bojh hota hai toh kamar par bhi asar padta hai. Hum log toh thoda sarso tel garm karke maalish kar lete hain aur aaram mil jata hai. Lekin agar dard bahut zyada ho toh daktar babu ko dikhana hi theek rehta hai.

Yes, stress absolutely causes lower back pain because it makes you hold tension in your spine. Try heat therapy and some basic stretching.

I have dealt with chronic back pain for five years now, and stress is a major trigger. My advice is to avoid sitting for long hours, use a hard mattress, and practice mindfulness to relax your nervous system. If the pain radiates down your legs, go see a neurologist immediately.

It is so exhausting when emotional stress turns into physical pain, and it used to make me feel so helpless and frustrated. Please know your pain is real and not just in your head. Give yourself some grace, rest, and consider talking to a doctor for support.

This is a very common issue that I see many people face on this forum. Stress-induced muscle spasms in the lower back are extremely frequent. Try using a hot water bag twice a day and doing light walks, but do visit an orthopedic doctor if the pain is severe.
