Can stress cause jaw pain?

I've been clenching my jaw a lot lately, especially when I'm worried or stressed. Now my jaw feels sore and painful. Can stress be the reason for jaw pain?

Yes, stress can make you clench your teeth, but jaw pain can sometimes be linked to other health issues too. It is always safer to get it checked by a dentist or a physician. Don't leave it guessing, get a professional opinion.

Oh god, I had this last month and I couldn't even chew my favorite butter chicken properly! Turns out I was clenching my teeth at night because of work pressure. I had to switch to soft khichdi for three days, it was so sad. Definitely try to relax your jaw consciously.

At my age, I have seen how stress manifests physically in the strangest ways. During my bank service days, I used to get terrible jaw pain during audit months because of sleeping with a tight jaw. Don't worry, once you start doing some simple warm compresses and breathing exercises, it goes away.

With PCOS, high inflammation and stress are quite common, and I often feel my face muscles getting super tight when I am anxious. It could be stress-related clenching, but since jaw pain can have multiple causes, it's best to show a doctor just to be sure.

I suffered from TMJ pain for a year due to stress. The best thing is to consciously keep your teeth parted during the day and use a warm water bag on your cheeks before sleeping. Also, check with a dentist if you need a night guard to protect your teeth from grinding.
