Can stress cause dandruff?

No matter what shampoo I use, my dandruff problem just seems to get worse, especially when I'm feeling overwhelmed. My barber told me that stress can be a big factor. Is it true that stress can cause or worsen dandruff?

Yes, absolutely. Stress spikes cortisol which makes your scalp super oily and triggers dandruff.

My dandruff and dry scalp got really bad when my thyroid levels were fluctuating due to work stress. Please get a routine thyroid and blood test done to see if there is an underlying issue, and keep in touch with your doctor.

In my younger days during family tensions, my hair would become very itchy and flaky. Once the mind settled, the scalp also cleared up. Don't worry too much, just oil your hair lightly with warm coconut oil and lemon, and take some rest.

Yes, stress definitely worsens dandruff. Try using a mild ketoconazole shampoo twice a week, it really helps.

Between work deadlines and kids' school fees, my hair has mostly fallen out, and whatever is left has dandruff! Stress messes with your immunity, making the scalp fungus go crazy. Just use a good anti-dandruff shampoo and accept life's chaos.

When I am stressed, I eat way too many spicy rolls and sweets, which worsens my gut health and triggers dandruff flare-ups! Try cutting down on greasy junk food and drink lots of water to keep your skin and scalp happy.

I completely understand how frustrating and embarrassing dandruff can be, especially when you are already feeling anxious. Stress triggers hormonal shifts that cause scalp irritation. Please don't stress about it too much, it is very common and completely treatable.
