Can statins cause kidney disease?

My father has been on statins for many years, and lately, his kidney reports have shown some fluctuating numbers. We are very worried about him. Could his statin medication be contributing to kidney disease?

Statins generally protect the kidneys, but high doses can sometimes affect them. Instead of worrying, just plan your budget for a simple Kidney Function Test (KFT) every six months. It only costs around 300 to 500 rupees in most labs and gives total peace of mind.

Yaar, if we believe everything on the internet, even breathing causes kidney failure! Statins are actually quite friendly with your kidneys. unless you are running a marathon daily without drinking water, you are perfectly safe. Chill out!

They don't usually cause kidney issues, but to keep your kidneys healthy while on any long-term medication, keep your diet clean. Drink plenty of water, limit your salt intake, and avoid heavy processed foods. Natural homemade food is the best support for your organs.

Actually, statins are safe for kidneys in standard doses. If you want to keep your overall organs healthy, focus on active living. I do a 45-minute brisk walk daily, which improves blood circulation everywhere. Just ask your doc if you are fit for moderate exercise.

Bro, I am typing this at 3 AM because my toddler won't sleep, so my brain is half-dead. But I know this much because of my dad's prescriptions: statins are actually prescribed to chronic kidney patients to save their hearts. So sleep easy, your kidneys should be fine.

Do not read random Google articles or believe WhatsApp forwards saying statins destroy your kidneys. It is mostly false. If you have concerns, look at your lab reports and talk to your nephrologist or cardiologist directly. Only trust professional medical advice.

Please never ignore any changes in your urine color or unexpected swelling in your ankles. I ignored minor symptoms once thinking it was normal tiredness, and it turned into a huge complication. If you are taking statins and feel something is off, get a kidney test done immediately.

Having thyroid issues has taught me that all body systems are connected. Statins rarely cause kidney damage, but it's always smart to have a routine checkup. Just like I get my TSH checked, ask your doctor to add a serum creatinine test to your routine blood work.

My doctor just started me on Rosuvastatin and I am terrified of kidney side effects because I read some weird things online. Has anyone here actually had their kidney reports show any issues because of these tablets? Please tell me, I'm so stressed.

Beta, at this age I have seen many people take statins for years without any kidney trouble. Along with your regular English medicines, drink coconut water occasionally and eat fresh seasonal fruits. It keeps the body cool and helps flush out toxins naturally.
