Can statins cause diabetes?

My family has a strong history of diabetes, and now I've been put on statins for high cholesterol. I've heard some people say statins can increase the risk of getting diabetes. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I am diabetic and also take a statin daily for my heart health. Yes, statins can slightly raise your HbA1c, but my doctor told me the heart protection benefits are way higher. I just stay extra strict with my low-carb diet and daily walks to keep my sugars in control.

My sugar levels shot up dramatically after I started statins, and we almost missed it until I got a routine blood test done. It can happen, especially if you are already pre-diabetic. Please consult your physician and get regular HbA1c tests done so you can catch it early.

Oh god, I spent nights googling this when my mom was prescribed statins. I got so anxious thinking we are curing cholesterol but inviting diabetes! But actually, the risk is very small and mostly for those who already have high sugar. Just keep checking her fasting sugar every few months to be safe.

Babuji, ghabrane ki baat nahi hai. Doctor sahib ne bataya tha ki thoda sugar badh sakta hai dawa se, par dil ki suraksha ke liye yeh zaroori hai. Bas subah shaam thoda paidal chala kariye aur meetha bilkul kam kar dijiye.

There is a slight statistical link between statins and a small rise in blood sugar levels. However, you should never make any changes to your heart medication based on online doubts. Get a fasting blood glucose test done and discuss the report directly with your doctor.

Look, simple baat hai. Statins can cause a mild increase in blood sugar for some people, but it is not a guarantee that you will get diabetes. Don't stop the medicine on your own because cholesterol is dangerous. Just eat properly and stay active.

Even I am really worried about this. My doctor suggested statins last week but I haven't started because of this diabetes fear. Has anyone here actually developed high sugar after starting statins? Do the levels go back down if we change the dose?
