Can sparkling watwr increase cavities?

I drink a lot of sparkling water, especially during meals. My dentist recently warned me about acidic drinks and teeth. Can sparkling water really increase my risk of getting cavities?

I had a few minor cavities last year because I was sipping carbonated water all day at work. The carbonation makes it slightly acidic, which can weaken enamel if you sip it constantly. My dentist told me to use a straw and rinse with plain water right after.

If it is plain sparkling water, the risk is very low compared to sweet colas or mocktails. But honestly, if you are having flavored ones with hidden citric acid and sugar, your teeth won't be very happy!

I panicked and thought I ruined my teeth after drinking sparkling water daily for months. My dentist checked and said my enamel is perfectly fine, just avoid the ones with added sugars or citrus flavors.

Plain sparkling water is mostly safe for your teeth! Just don't replace normal drinking water with it completely. Keep smiling and keep brushing! 😊

It is simple physics and chemistry. The carbonation makes the water slightly acidic, which can soften enamel over time if you drink it too much. Just drink it with your meals instead of sipping it slowly all day.

I drink sparkling water post-workout as a refreshing treat instead of sugary energy drinks. It is way better for your teeth and fitness goals than soda, as long as it's unflavored and sugar-free.
