Can sore throats cause ear pain?

I've had a bad sore throat for a couple of days now. This morning, my ear started hurting a bit, especially when I swallow. Can a sore throat affect your ears like this?

Ho na, this is very common actually. The ears and throat are connected inside, so when the throat hurts, ear pain also starts. Just try doing warm water gargles, it will give you some relief.

I totally get it, that sharp ear ache whenever you try to swallow is absolutely miserable. It happens because of a shared nerve connection between the throat and the middle ear. I hope you feel better soon.

Take care of yourself during this weather change. The passages between the nose, throat, and ears are closely linked, so irritation in one affects the other. Rest well and drink warm liquids, the body will heal.

Please monitor this closely. I once ignored a sore throat with ear pain, and it turned into a severe middle ear infection that took weeks of antibiotics to cure. If the ear pain gets sharp or you feel dizzy, see an ENT specialist immediately.

I was reading up on this because my throat felt scratchy and my left ear started popping. Apparently, the Eustachian tube connects them, and when the throat gets inflamed, this tube can get blocked, causing ear pressure and pain.
