Can someone have type 1 and type 2 diabetes?

My sister was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was young, and now her doctor is talking about signs of insulin resistance, which sounds like Type 2. Is it possible for someone to have both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes at the same time?

Man, dealing with even one type of diabetes is a nightmare when you love sweet lassi and paranthas as much as I do. Having both sounds like double trouble. Definitely get a proper specialist to look into your reports so you can manage your diet properly.

Yes, it is possible and sometimes referred to as double diabetes. Please consult an endocrinologist to get your C-peptide levels checked.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 initially, but due to weight gain and poor lifestyle, I developed severe insulin resistance, which is basically Type 2 features on top of it. Getting my diet strictly controlled and working closely with my doc saved me.

This is actually called 'double diabetes.' My doctor explained that a person with Type 1 can develop insulin resistance (which is Type 2) if they gain weight or have a family history. It requires a very tailored treatment plan of both insulin and lifestyle changes.

Oh God, this sounds so stressful to manage. I get anxious just reading about blood sugar fluctuations. Please take care of yourself, don't ignore any symptoms of high or low sugar, and keep your doctor on speed dial.

Since I have thyroid, I know how complex endocrine issues can get. It is very important to get regular blood tests done and follow up with a good endocrinologist rather than guessing your insulin needs yourself.

I know how insulin resistance works due to my PCOS, and it's a tricky balance. While I've read about 'double diabetes,' I'm not an expert, so I'd strongly suggest seeing an endocrinologist to get an accurate diagnosis.

Don't go by what people say on forums or YouTube about 'reverse diabetes' or hybrid types. Diabetes is highly medical. Go to a reputed hospital, get your HbA1c and other specific tests done, and trust only your doctor.
