Can someone donate their liver?

My friend's father needs a liver transplant, and our family is trying to see if anyone can help. I always thought you could only donate organs after death. Can someone donate a part of their liver while they are still alive?

Yes, liver donation is highly successful, and a healthy living person can donate a portion of their liver because it has the unique ability to regenerate. However, the donor must go through extremely rigorous medical checkups to ensure they are 100% fit and safe for surgery. Always consult a major transplant center for accurate guidance.

Yes, absolutely! Living liver donation is very common now. A donor can safely give a part of their liver to a family member, and both parts will grow back to normal size in a few months. The donor needs to have a matching blood group and be in excellent overall health before proceeding with the tests.

I didn't know someone could donate a liver while they are still alive, I thought it was only possible after death. Does the donor have to take medicines for the rest of their life after donating, or does the liver heal completely on its own?

Yes, living donation is a very viable option, but it requires a significant time commitment for pre-transplant evaluations and post-surgery recovery. If you are considering this, make sure to plan your work leave properly, as recovery takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Speak to a hospital transplant coordinator for a clear timeline.

Yes, you can! The liver is like a real-life superhero, it actually grows back after you cut a piece of it! Just make sure you are not drinking like a fish before you decide to donate, because they need a healthy, happy liver!

Yes, a parent can often donate a portion of their liver to their child if the blood group matches. My friend did this for her toddler, and both are doing absolutely wonderful now. The hospital team takes extreme care of both donor and recipient safety, so don't lose hope.

Yes, according to transplant guidelines, a healthy adult between 18 and 55 years can donate a segment of their liver. My doctor friend mentioned that the liver regenerates up to 90% of its original volume within two months. But you must contact a registered transplant center to undergo the legal and medical screening.

Yes, living donation is possible, but donors must be in top-notch health. For example, if someone has uncontrolled diabetes or a severe fatty liver, they might not be allowed to donate. If you want to be a donor, keeping a very clean diet and getting your sugar levels checked is the first step.

Actually yaar, liver donation is totally possible and the cool part is that the liver grows back to its full size within a few weeks! But the tests for matching are super intense, they check everything from your blood to liver fat. If you are planning to donate, talk to a transplant doctor directly.
