Can someone die from sleep paralysis?

I often experience sleep paralysis, and it's a terrifying experience, feeling completely stuck. Sometimes, I feel like I can't breathe properly during an episode. It makes me wonder if it's possible to actually die from sleep paralysis.

No way, you absolutely cannot die from sleep paralysis, even though it feels incredibly terrifying in the moment. It is just your brain waking up faster than your muscles. Just fix your sleep schedule, cut down on late-night screen time, and you will see it happen much less.

I completely understand how scary it is, I used to wake up unable to move and literally thought I was having a stroke or dying. But once I spoke to a doctor, I realized it is 100% physically safe. Your heart and breathing keep working perfectly, so just try to stay calm when it happens.

Medically speaking, sleep paralysis is completely benign and does not cause death or any physical harm. It is simply a dissociation between sleep stages. If this is happening very frequently and causing severe daytime fatigue, consulting a sleep specialist or a general physician is the best way to address it.

Listen, nobody has ever died from sleep paralysis. It is just a temporary glitch in your sleep cycle because of stress or bad sleep habits. Stop overthinking it and sleeping on your back. If you are very stressed, talk to a doctor, but rest assured your life is not in danger.

It is completely harmless, so please do not fear. In yoga, we understand that a disturbed mind and irregular sleep disrupt our energy. Try practicing some deep breathing or Shavasana before sleeping to calm your nervous system. Sleep paralysis cannot harm your life, it is just a temporary state.
