Can someone develop asthma later in life?

My elder brother, who is 50, has suddenly started experiencing breathing difficulties and persistent coughing, which wasn't there before. A doctor mentioned it might be asthma. I thought it was a childhood condition; can someone actually develop asthma later in life?

Yes, we call it adult-onset asthma and we see many patients developing it in their 30s, 40s, or even later. It often triggers after a severe respiratory infection, or due to workplace allergies and city pollution. If you are wheezing or have a persistent dry cough, please see a specialist for a proper lung function test.

Yes, adult-onset asthma is quite common and can develop at any age due to allergies or pollution. It is highly manageable with proper medical advice.

My wife developed breathing issues in her 40s and the doctor confirmed it was asthma. Instead of worrying, we just made simple changes like regular steam inhalation, keeping the house dust-free, and always keeping her prescribed inhaler handy. It's very common and easy to manage if you follow doctor's instructions.

Yes, it is very possible to get asthma later in life, so please don't feel isolated. It can be surprising at first, but with simple medical care and inhalers, you will feel completely normal again. Take care and stay positive.

It definitely happens, even to active people, due to rising pollution levels and sudden allergies. I have a friend who developed it in his 30s, but he kept up his cardio exercises and clean diet, which really helped his lung capacity. Don't let it stop you, just work closely with your doctor.

Yes, it definitely can happen later in life. Keeping your bedroom completely free of dust and using a good quality air purifier can make a huge difference in managing the triggers.

Actually, my fitness band showed a steady drop in my oxygen saturation during workouts, which led me to discover I had mild adult asthma. It can develop at any age due to environmental factors. Tracking your symptoms on a health app can help you explain things much better to your pulmonologist.

I can only share my personal experience here, but I actually developed asthma in my late twenties after moving to Delhi. I had zero breathing issues as a kid, so it was a big shock to me. Now, keeping my environment clean and staying away from heavy dust works best for me.
