Can sleep paralysis kill you?

My first sleep paralysis experience recently was absolutely terrifying, making me feel like I couldn't breathe. After reading some things online, I'm now really scared. Can sleep paralysis actually be fatal, or is it just a very frightening experience?

Sleep paralysis is a benign condition and cannot kill you. However, if you are experiencing severe breathing difficulties or panic attacks along with it, you should consult a specialist at a hospital to rule out other issues.

Nahi beta, isse jaan nahi jaati. It feels like someone is holding you down, but it is just a bad dream of the waking mind. Keep some water near your bed and sleep peacefully.

Listen to me, you are completely safe. It feels terrifying because you can't move, but it is physically impossible for sleep paralysis to hurt you. Next time it happens, just try to focus on breathing calmly.

No, it won't kill you. Your body is just in a deep sleep state while your mind is awake. Stop reading scary things online, avoid sleeping on your back, and you will be fine.

I used to have this every week and felt like I was going to die each time. But once I fixed my sleeping position and managed my stress, it completely stopped. It is harmless, so don't let it scare you.

Physically, it is entirely harmless. It is just REM sleep intrusion where muscle atonia persists after waking up. Tracking your sleep hygiene and keeping a consistent wake-up time will help reduce these episodes.
