Can sleep deprivation cause hallucinations?

Working night shifts means I barely sleep during the day. Sometimes, when very tired, I feel like I'm seeing or hearing things that aren't real. I'm quite worried; can severe lack of sleep make someone experience hallucinations?

Suno, dimaag ko rest nahi milega toh woh thak kar ajeeb cheezein dikhane lagega. Yeh koi mazaak nahi hai. Agar aapko aisi hallucinations ho rahi hain, toh chupchap phone side rakho aur so jao. Agar phir bhi theek na ho, toh turant doctor ko dikhao.

Bro, it definitely does. I stayed awake for almost 48 hours straight during a gaming marathon in college and I literally started seeing shadows moving in the corner of my eyes. It was super creepy. Please don't push your body that far, go sleep.

Yes yaar, actually it's a known thing. When the brain doesn't get REM sleep, it starts dreaming while you are wide awake! I felt so disoriented and heard weird noises once after missing two nights of sleep. It’s scary, please prioritize your sleep.

It can happen in extreme cases, but before you spend thousands on expensive brain scans and neurologist fees, just try getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep for 3-4 days. Usually, simple rest will fix the issue without costing a single rupee.

Yes, sleep deprivation causes severe cognitive lapses, including sensory hallucinations. Your brain literally forced micro-sleeps to survive. If you are experiencing this, it's a serious red flag. Stop whatever you are doing and seek medical advice if rest doesn't resolve it.

Yes, extreme exhaustion plays tricks on your mind. Drinking a cup of warm chamomile tea or massaging your temples with oil can help relax your nerves for a good sleep. But if the hallucinations continue even after resting, please see a doctor immediately.

Oh dear, don't stress too much! Your brain is just extremely exhausted and needs a complete reboot. Wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, turn off the lights, and get a solid sleep. You will feel completely normal and fresh tomorrow morning, I promise.
