Can sleep deprivation cause constipation?

I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately, barely getting 4-5 hours a night. On top of that, I've also been feeling quite constipated. Someone at the gym mentioned that lack of sleep can affect digestion. Can sleep deprivation actually cause constipation, or is it just a coincidence?

Bro yes, during semester exams I barely sleep and my stomach gets totally jammed. It's like my digestive system also goes to sleep when I don't. Drinking lots of water helps a bit but real sleep is the only fix.

It is so frustrating and stressful when your body feels completely blocked just because of lack of sleep. I used to cry because the physical discomfort made my anxiety so much worse. You are not alone in this, please rest your body.

Sleeplessness disrupts your body's natural circadian rhythm, which slows down bowel movements. During hectic launch weeks, I face this issue. The most practical thing is to set a strict bedtime and drink warm water first thing in the morning.

Yes, sleep is when our body's peristalsis works best to clear toxins. If you don't sleep, that process is cut short. Try practicing Pawanmuktasana and gentle abdominal breathing in the morning to help stimulate your bowels naturally.

Don't start drinking random herbal churna or heavy laxatives from the internet for this. While sleep loss can affect digestion, persistent constipation can have many other causes. It's best to verify with a doctor instead of experimenting.

I always worry that chronic constipation from bad sleep might lead to bigger colon issues. It's a scary cycle because then the anxiety keeps me awake too. Try to take some high-fiber food and please consult a doc if it doesn't get better.
