Can sleep apnea cause afib?

I have sleep apnea and recently, my doctor mentioned I might have atrial fibrillation. I'm trying to understand the link. Is it possible for my sleep apnea to be contributing to or causing this heart rhythm problem?

I completely understand how terrifying it feels when you start linking these things. I used to spend whole nights googling and panicking about my heart. Honestly, it is best to speak to a doctor because anxiety makes everything feel much worse than it is.

If you need to get a sleep study or an ECG done, check out government diagnostic centers or local trust hospitals first. Private ones charge a bomb for these tests. Try to plan your monthly budget around it because ignoring a potential heart issue might end up costing way more later.

Yes, sleep issues can put a lot of pressure on the heart and blood pressure. I have had hypertension for years and my doctor told me that untreated apnea makes it much harder to keep BP under control. Definitely get your daily readings checked and consult your specialist.

Please do not wait around like I did. I kept ignoring my snoring and weird heart flutters thinking it was just stress, and ended up in the emergency room. Get a sleep test done and see a cardiologist immediately before things get complicated.

Actually yes, my cardiologist told me they are closely linked. Once I started using my CPAP machine regularly, my heart palpitations and irregular rhythms completely settled down. It feels amazing to finally wake up refreshed and without that scary chest fluttering.
