Can sitting cause back pain?

With a desk job where I sit for many hours a day, my back has been constantly aching lately. I wanted to know if prolonged sitting is actually a common cause of back pain?

Yes, absolutely. My smart watch keeps buzzing every hour to remind me to stand up because prolonged sitting ruins posture. Using a standing desk and tracking active hours has really helped reduce my lower back stiffness.

My son had terrible lower back pain from sitting through long online college classes. We bought him an ergonomic chair and made sure he takes a 5-minute walk after every lecture, which has helped him immensely.

I can only speak from my own experience of working from home. Whenever I sit on my bed to work instead of using a proper table and chair, my lower back hurts for days. Proper seating posture makes a huge difference.

With PCOS, chronic pelvic and lower back pain can get worse with long sitting hours due to poor blood flow. I try to do light pelvic stretches, but it is always best to consult a doctor if the pain is severe.

I totally get it, sitting all day at a computer makes your whole back feel like a stiff block of wood. It is so exhausting, but taking short walking breaks really helps ease that constant ache.

Bhai, sitting for 6 hours straight during exams absolutely destroys my lower back. I literally have to lie down flat on the floor to stretch it out. Definitely get up and stretch occasionally.

I totally get how scary it feels when you stand up and feel a sharp pain in your back, making you worry if it's a slipped disc. Most of the time it is just tight muscles from sitting too much, so try to breathe and relax.

I had severe sciatica from my 10-hour desk job. The key is to adjust your screen height so you don't slouch, use a small lumbar support cushion for your lower back, and do hamstring stretches daily.

Beta, sitting in one place for hours freezes the lower back muscles. In our days we used to stay active, but now you should gently apply warm mustard oil and remember to walk around every hour.

At my age, sitting for more than an hour means my back starts making weird popping sounds when I stand up. Poor posture on these modern soft sofas is definitely the main culprit for back pain.
