Can shoulder pain cause neck pain?

I've had this persistent pain in my right shoulder for the past few weeks, and now I'm starting to feel a dull ache in my neck on the same side. I'm wondering if the two are related. Can shoulder pain actually cause neck pain as a secondary symptom?

I am not completely sure about the exact medical connection, but with my PCOS, I deal with general body aches and bad posture that makes both my neck and shoulders hurt together. It might be worth checking if they are connected in your case too.

My doctor actually explained this to me last month when my left shoulder was aching. The nerves and muscles in the cervical spine area are shared, so pain in the shoulder easily radiates up to the neck. He advised light range-of-motion exercises instead of absolute rest.

Yes, they are very closely linked because the trapezious muscle connects your neck and shoulder. If one gets strained, the other is bound to feel the pressure soon. Try some basic heat therapy at home, it usually helps.

Oh absolutely, they are like best friends who share everything! Whenever my shoulder gets stiff from gymming, my neck joins the party the very next day. Just take it easy and do some gentle stretches.

Please don't go trying random home remedies or heavy stretches you find on the internet for this. If your neck and shoulder are both hurting, go to a qualified ortho or physiotherapist to find the real root cause.
