Can severe dehydration cause vomiting?

My elderly grandmother wasn't drinking enough water and became very dehydrated recently. She then started vomiting. Her doctor said it could be a symptom of severe dehydration itself. Is vomiting a known effect of very bad dehydration?

I am a bit new here, but can dehydration really cause vomiting? I always thought it was the other way around, like vomiting causes dehydration. If someone is already dehydrated and starts vomiting, isn't that very dangerous for them?

Yes, severe dehydration can mess up your electrolyte balance and trigger nausea and vomiting, creating a bad cycle. If you're working long hours in the heat, keep ORS or coconut water handy. If you start vomiting and can't keep water down, go to a clinic immediately for IV fluids.

Yes, severe dehydration can definitely cause vomiting. If this is happening, please seek medical attention right away as it can get serious very fast.

Haan na, severe dehydration can definitely make you vomit because the body's salt balance gets totally ruined. I faced this during peak summer once. It is very important to sip ORS slowly, but if the vomiting doesn't stop, go to a doctor, okay?

Please do not take this lightly. Severe dehydration leading to vomiting is a medical emergency because you lose whatever little fluid is left. I had severe heatstroke once and needed urgent hospital care. Go to an emergency room before your blood pressure drops too low.

Definitely. When your body is severely dehydrated, your organs struggle and it triggers a nausea reflex. My fitness tracker always reminds me to log water, especially on hot days or after workouts. If you've reached the vomiting stage, skip the app tracking and head straight to a doctor for treatment.

Having thyroid issues has made me very sensitive to dehydration, and yes, it can lead to severe nausea and vomiting. You should not ignore these signs. Get a doctor's consultation immediately, and make sure to get regular blood tests done to see if your electrolytes are normal.
