Can rheumatoid arthritis cause muscle spasms?

Lately, my muscles, especially in my legs, have been twitching and spasming a lot. I've been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis for some time now, and I'm trying to understand if this could be another side effect of the condition.

Yes, they can. When your joints are inflamed and painful, the muscles around them automatically tense up to protect the joint, leading to painful spasms. Make sure you stay hydrated and talk to your doctor about whether you need mild muscle relaxants or magnesium.

My consultant at Manipal Hospital specifically told me that muscle spasms can happen because of joint instability in RA. You should ask your doctor clearly about this instead of trying self-treatments, as they might need to adjust your therapy plan.

Actually, my muscles go into crazy spasms whenever my RA flares up, yaar. It feels like my whole leg is locking up. The doc explained that the muscles are just working overtime to support the weak joints. It's super painful.

In our old age, these joint and muscle pains are very common. When arthritis damages the joints, the surrounding muscles suffer too. You can try gently massaging the area with lukewarm sesame oil, but do it softly and see your doctor if the pain is severe.

I get these spasms in my calves and back quite often due to my arthritis. Applying a warm heating pad for 15 minutes really helps soothe the tight muscles ghar pe. It is a simple, budget-friendly fix that gives quick relief.

I was just reading up on this because my uncle has RA and keeps complaining of sudden muscle cramps. It seems very common because the body tries to compensate for the stiff joints, which strains the muscles. Interesting how it's all connected.
