Can rheumatoid arthritis be in your ankle?

My ankle has been feeling very stiff and swollen, especially in the mornings, and I'm worried it might be related to rheumatoid arthritis. Can RA affect the ankle joint, or is it more common in hands and wrists?

Yeah bro, it can absolutely hit the ankles. My left ankle used to feel like lead every single morning. I had to get my meds adjusted by my rheumatologist, and that's the only thing that actually cleared it up.

Yes, it can definitely affect the ankles, I have struggled with this myself. Wearing supportive, well-cushioned shoes instead of flat slippers makes a huge difference in reducing the daily ache. Don't skip your doctor's prescribed medications either.

Yes, RA commonly affects ankle joints. Try using a warm compress in the morning to ease the initial stiffness.

Don't listen to people telling you to rub some magical oil on your ankle to cure it. Ankle pain in RA is due to internal joint inflammation that needs proper disease-modifying drugs, which only a specialist can prescribe.

Yes, RA can target any synovial joint, including the ankle. This can lead to instability and pain while walking if left untreated. It is highly advisable to consult your rheumatologist for an appropriate management plan.

It can certainly affect the ankles. I usually apply warm mustard oil infused with garlic to soothe the ache on cold days. But if the pain makes it hard to stand, you must see a doctor instead of relying on home care.

Yes, it can be in the ankle. When patients come to our clinic with ankle swelling, we usually advise keeping the foot elevated on a pillow when resting. But make sure you get your regular blood tests done to monitor the inflammation.

Honestly, my uncle has RA and his ankles swell up so much that he can barely walk some days. It is definitely a thing. If you are feeling stiffness there, better mention it to your doctor asap.

Ankle pain can be due to many reasons like ligament issues or arthritis. Because the ankle carries your entire body weight, it is highly recommended to get an X-ray and see a specialist for a correct diagnosis.

I didn't know RA could affect ankles too, I thought it was only for fingers. My ankles have been hurting lately after waking up. Does the swelling go down on its own, or do we have to take special medicines?

Ankle inflammation is common in RA. Along with medical treatment, trying an anti-inflammatory diet with turmeric and green leafy veggies can help manage the swelling. Avoid eating highly processed or sugary foods as they can increase joint pain.
