Can putting a laptop on your lap cause cancer?

My wife always tells me off for keeping my laptop on my lap while working or watching movies. She says the heat and radiation can cause cancer. Is there any truth to this belief that putting a laptop on your lap could cause cancer?

There is no scientific evidence proving that laptop radiation causes cancer. However, the heat generated by the laptop can cause skin irritation or hyperpigmentation, and in men, it can affect sperm quality due to increased scrotal temperature. It is always best to consult a doctor if you notice any unusual skin changes, and use a desk or a cooling pad.

Actually yaar, this is mostly a WhatsApp rumor that got out of hand. Laptops don't emit that kind of harmful radiation, but the heat is definitely not good for your skin or thighs. Just buy a simple lap desk, it's much more comfortable anyway.

Don't fall for these random internet scares and fake articles claiming everything causes cancer. If you are genuinely concerned about radiation or skin issues, talk to a qualified doctor who can give you facts based on science. Keep a cushion in between to avoid the heat, that's it.

No, it doesn't cause cancer. But the heat can definitely damage your skin, so better use a table.

I used to work with my laptop directly on my bare thighs for hours, and I ended up getting dark, mottled red patches which my doctor diagnosed as Erythema Ab Igne, basically toasted skin syndrome. It wasn't cancer, thank God, but it took months to fade. Please use a table or a thick pillow.

I totally get it, with so much scary information online, it is very natural to worry about these things. Rest assured, standard laptops don't cause cancer, but keeping them on your lap for too long can cause mild skin burns from the heat. Try to take care and use a lap tray to stay safe and comfortable.
