Can psoriasis on the scalp cause headaches?

I've been suffering from frequent headaches recently, and I also have severe psoriasis on my scalp. My head feels very tight and itchy sometimes. Could there be a connection, or can scalp psoriasis cause headaches directly?

Directly speaking, psoriasis itself doesn't cause brain headaches, but the severe tightness and stress of scalp plaques can definitely make your head heavy. Don't waste money going for expensive head scans or MRI tests first. Just visit a basic skin specialist to get the scalp scaling sorted, it's much cheaper and will likely solve the headache too.

The constant irritation and itching on the head can disturb your sleep and nerves, leading to headaches. I have found that practicing sheetali pranayama and gentle neck stretches helps cool down the body's internal heat and relaxes the tight muscles around the skull.

Oh, definitely! When the scalp is super dry and inflamed, it feels so tight and that can easily trigger a tension headache 🤯 Try to keep your scalp moisturized and use a soothing cool pack if it feels too warm and painful!

From what I understand about chronic inflammatory issues, the physical discomfort and stress of scalp psoriasis can definitely cause tension headaches. It might also be related to sleep loss if the itching keeps you awake at night. Please be gentle with yourself and perhaps mention it to your specialist during your next visit.

Honestly, at this age, even a minor change in the weather gives me a headache, so a whole scaly scalp flare-up definitely can! The constant itching and pulling feeling on the skin is enough to drive anyone crazy and cause a massive head ache. Keep the scalp clean and rest well.

Please don't ignore this. Sometimes scalp psoriasis can lead to skin infections if we scratch too much, and the swelling in lymph nodes can cause radiating pain and severe headaches. You should consult your doctor immediately to make sure there is no underlying infection or other complication starting.

I completely understand why you are worried, as health issues can make us stress so much about every single symptom. When I had severe scalp scaling, I also got terrible headaches because I was constantly tensing my forehead and worrying about what was wrong. Once the skin doctor treated the flare-up and my anxiety eased, the headaches disappeared.
