Can prostate cancer cause diarrhea?

Recently, my brother, who has prostate cancer, started having bouts of diarrhea. Is this a common symptom, or can prostate cancer cause diarrhea? We're worried about his overall health.

My grandfather went through radiation for prostate cancer and he had quite a bit of diarrhea as a side effect. We kept him hydrated with ORS and light khichdi, which really helped, but we also kept his oncologist updated daily.

Our bodies go through many shifts during difficult illnesses, but staying calm and positive helps us heal. While diarrhea can sometimes happen due to treatments, take good care of your hydration and trust your medical team. God bless you.

I totally get it, dealing with bowel changes like diarrhea on top of cancer is extremely draining and stressful. Often, the radiation or hormone treatments are what cause this digestive upset. Please make sure to drink plenty of fluids and rest.

Yes, diarrhea is a very common side effect of prostate cancer treatments like radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Don't worry too much, this is a very known issue, especially if you are undergoing radiation therapy in the pelvic area. Just focus on eating simple curd-rice, stay hydrated, and let your doctor know so they can prescribe a safe medicine to control it.

If the diarrhea is severe, you might need a simple stool test or electrolytes panel, which costs around 300 to 500 rupees at local labs. Keep some ORS sachets handy at home as a cheap way to stay hydrated before you consult your doctor.
