Can probiotics cause kidney problems?

I started taking probiotic supplements a few months back for my digestion, as recommended by a friend. Now, I'm a bit concerned because I heard something about them possibly affecting kidney health. Can probiotics really cause problems for kidneys?

Beta, I have been using simple home-made curd and local probiotics for years to keep my stomach healthy, and my kidneys are perfectly fine. These natural bacteria are very safe. Just don't buy heavy chemical supplements without a doctor's advice.

Probiotics are generally super safe and don't cause any kidney issues for healthy people! Just make sure you drink plenty of water and don't overdo the supplements. Keep smiling and take care of your health!

I was thinking of starting probiotics for my digestion, but I have some family history of kidney stones. Can these supplements increase the risk of stones, or are they completely safe? I'm a bit nervous to start.

For healthy individuals, probiotics do not cause any kidney problems. In fact, some specific strains are even studied to help reduce toxin load in the body. However, if you have chronic kidney disease or are on dialysis, always consult your nephrologist before taking any supplement.

Instead of worrying and planning for expensive kidney function tests, just stick to natural probiotics like dahi or buttermilk. They are extremely cheap, completely safe for your kidneys, and have no synthetic additives. Save your money for regular annual health packages instead.
