Can probiotics cause diarrhea and stomach pain?

I started taking probiotics a few days ago, hoping to improve my gut health. But now I'm experiencing some diarrhea and stomach pain. Is this a normal initial reaction, or can probiotics cause diarrhea and stomach pain as a side effect?

Yes, they actually can, especially if you start with a high dose or a multi-strain supplement. The sudden influx of active bacteria can temporarily trigger loose motions and mild cramps. Try stopping it for a few days to see if your stomach settles down.

I am so sorry you are feeling unwell. Sometimes our stomach takes a little time to adjust to new supplements, which can cause loose stools and discomfort. Take plenty of rest and sip on some warm water today.

Please be careful, as I once had severe complications from self-treating chronic digestive issues with random probiotics. If you are having continuous diarrhea and sharp pain, don't wait for it to self-correct. Go see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis.

Hamare yahan toh log pet kharab hone par dahi-chawal khate hain, ye probiotic wali dawaiyon se kabhi-kabhi pet dukhne lagta hai. Tum thode din ise band karke dekho aur dahi khao. Agar aaram na mile toh doctor babu ko zaroor dikhana.

I just started taking probiotics this week and my stomach has been hurting too. Is it normal for this to happen, or did I perhaps get the wrong dose? I would love to know if anyone else had to switch to a different brand.

Haan, probiotics se shuru me diarrhea aur pet dukhna ho sakta hai, kyunki stomach me badlaav aa rahe hote hain na. Par agar do-teen din me thik nahi hota, toh use lena band karo aur doctor se mil lo.

With PCOS, our gut health is already so sensitive, so starting probiotics can sometimes cause a strong reaction like diarrhea and cramping. I experienced this and had to stop the supplement to let my body rest. It is always best to be cautious and seek medical advice rather than guessing.

Man, I bought those pills to fix my digestion and ended up running to the bathroom every hour! Talk about a backfire. My body clearly hated those bacteria, so I just threw the bottle away and went back to simple home-cooked food.

I was researching this because my friend had a similar reaction. Some studies say a temporary change in bowel habits is normal when introducing new yeast or bacteria, but persistent diarrhea needs medical attention. Better safe than sorry.

I faced this exact issue last month when I bought a fancy probiotic brand. I had bad diarrhea and stomach cramps for three days straight. I stopped taking it immediately, and my stomach went back to normal. Some brands just don't suit everyone.
