Can prednisolone cause chest pain?

My doctor recently put me on prednisolone for an autoimmune condition. Since then, I've been getting some mild chest pain occasionally. Could the medicine be the reason for this chest pain?

I can totally understand how scary it is to feel chest pain while taking a strong steroid like prednisolone. It can make you feel super anxious, which actually makes the chest tightness worse. Please contact your doctor right away to get an ECG done just to be safe and ease your mind.

Chest pain is a serious symptom and cannot be treated with online advice or random home remedies. While prednisolone can sometimes cause severe acidity or high blood pressure which mimics chest pain, it can also be something cardiac. Go see a doctor immediately.

I had severe chest tightness when I was on this medicine and ended up rushing to the ER in a panic! It turned out to be just extremely bad acid reflux caused by the steroid on an empty stomach. The doctor gave me a simple antacid and I was fine, but definitely get it checked once to rule out anything else.

Beta, these heavy English medicines can sometimes create lot of heat and gas in the stomach, which travels up and feels like chest pain. You can drink some cold milk or fennel water to soothe the stomach, but since it is the chest, please tell your doctor today itself.

Yes, prednisolone is notorious for causing intense gastric irritation which feels exactly like chest pain. My tip is to never take it on an empty stomach and always ask your doc to prescribe a PPI like Pantocid along with it. Still, go get your BP and heart checked first.

Do not ignore chest pain while on steroids under any circumstances. It could be reflux, but it could also be a sudden spike in blood pressure or heart rate. Stop reading forums, take your prescription, and visit the nearest clinic immediately.
