Can potassium citrate dissolve kidney stones?

My father recently had kidney stones, and the doctor suggested certain dietary changes. I read online about potassium citrate being used to treat them. Can potassium citrate actually dissolve kidney stones, or is it more for prevention?

My doctor prescribed me potassium citrate syrup when I had a small 4mm kidney stone, and it really helped flush it out. Along with that, I had to drink almost 3-4 liters of water daily. That was just my personal experience, so your treatment might differ based on your stone size.

It can definitely help prevent and dissolve certain types of stones, like uric acid or calcium oxalate ones, by making your urine less acidic. But it depends entirely on the size and type of the stone. Don't waste time self-treating; get a quick ultrasound done and let a urologist prescribe the correct dosage.

Agree with others, it really helped dissolve my 5mm stone. Just make sure to drink lemon water daily too as a natural support.

Look, potassium citrate works well for small stones, but don't expect it to dissolve a massive stone overnight. You need a proper scan to see the stone size first. Go to a good doctor, get the tests done, and take whatever they prescribe instead of guessing.

Yes, potassium citrate is commonly used to prevent stone formation and help dissolve smaller ones. But along with any medicine, you must drink plenty of water and keep your sodium intake low to stop stones from forming. Staying hydrated during workouts is absolutely key for kidney health.
