Can plantar fasciitis cause ankle pain?

My doctor said I have plantar fasciitis, which explains my heel pain. But sometimes my ankle also feels stiff and painful, especially after walking. Is it common for plantar fasciitis to cause ankle pain as well?

It is completely normal to feel ankle pain along with it. When the bottom of your foot hurts, you naturally change your walking style to protect the arch, which strains the ankle joints. Try to rest your foot, don't walk barefoot on hard floors, and let it heal.

Honestly, between my crying baby and this throbbing ankle-foot pain combo, I don't know what is keeping me awake more. Yes, plantar fasciitis completely messes up your ankle because your whole foot alignment goes for a toss. I am surviving on ice packs right now.

You don't need fancy therapies right away. Just buy a pair of soft, cheap orthopedic gel insoles for your daily footwear and start rolling your foot over a tennis ball. It takes the pressure off both your heel and your ankle beautifully.

Please don't ignore that ankle pain. I thought my ankle stiffness was just a minor issue related to my heel pain, but ignoring it led to chronic tendonitis that sidelined me for months. Go get it checked by an orthopedic doctor before it worsens.

Yes, it definitely can. The strain in your arch directly affects your ankle stability, causing pain on the sides.
