Can picking scalp psoriasis make it worse?

I've been dealing with scalp psoriasis for years, and sometimes I unconsciously pick at the flakes. My dermatologist warned me against it. Does picking at scalp psoriasis actually make the condition worse or spread it?

Yes, from what I've read and experienced with skin issues, picking at scalp psoriasis can definitely trigger more flare-ups and even lead to infections. It's really hard to resist, but trying gentle hair washing and asking a dermatologist for a soothing coal tar shampoo is much safer.

Trust me, picking at it is the absolute worst thing you can do. It triggers a reaction called the Koebner phenomenon, which literally makes the psoriasis spread to those scratched areas. Use a medicated salicylic acid oil to loosen the flakes instead of scratching them off.

I completely understand the anxiety of constantly feeling your scalp and wanting to pick the flakes off to make it smooth. It used to make me panic thinking it was getting worse, but scratching only irritates the skin more. Try to keep your hands busy with something else and let a dermatologist treat it.

Oh, definitely don't pick at it! It makes the scalp bleed and can cause painful infections. Whenever my scalp feels super itchy, I apply some organic coconut oil mixed with a little tea tree oil before washing my hair, which really helps soothe the irritation.

Yes, picking definitely makes scalp psoriasis worse and can cause hair loss in those patches. Try using a doctor-prescribed lotion to calm the itching instead.

I know how stressful and embarrassing it is to have flakes on your scalp, and the urge to pick them is so strong. But honestly, it just causes bleeding and makes the patches grow back even thicker. You aren't alone in this struggle, please be gentle with your scalp.
