Can pepper spray kill you if you have asthma?

Mere cousin ko asthma hai aur wo self-defense ke liye pepper spray rakhna chahti hai. Is it possible for pepper spray to actually be fatal for someone with asthma if they accidentally get exposed? We are very concerned for her safety.

Pepper spray contains capsaicin which causes severe airway constriction, and for an asthmatic, this can trigger a life-threatening attack. It is extremely dangerous because the lungs are already sensitive. If anyone with asthma is exposed, they need their emergency inhaler immediately and medical help.

Oh that sounds super scary! 😮 Yes, pepper spray is really harsh on the lungs, especially if you already have asthma. It's best to stay cautious and make sure your friends know where you keep your emergency pump just in case of any accident!

I totally get it, even thinking about such scary situations can cause panic. The intense inflammation from the spray can make breathing nearly impossible for someone with asthma. Please make sure you and your loved ones always keep a rescue inhaler handy just in case.

While I usually talk about soothing the respiratory system with warm herbal teas and avoiding inflammatory foods, pepper spray is a chemical emergency. Food remedies won't help here. If you have asthma, always carry your inhaler in your bag for such unforeseen situations.

I accidentally got exposed to a tiny bit of pepper spray during a self-defense demo, and as an asthmatic, I started choking instantly. It was terrifying and my chest locked up completely. If I didn't have my emergency inhaler, I would have ended up in the ICU. It is incredibly risky.

I focus a lot on building lung capacity through cardio and outdoor running, but no amount of fitness can completely protect you from a chemical irritant like pepper spray. It can completely shut down an asthmatic's airways. If exposed, get to fresh air immediately and seek urgent care.
