Can people with type 2 diabetes eat popcorn?

I'm trying to find some healthy snack options since my Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. I used to enjoy popcorn at the movies. I was wondering, can people with Type 2 diabetes eat popcorn, or is it too starchy?

Popcorn seems like a harmless light snack, but the butter and carb load can quietly spike your levels. I used to blindly snack on it until my HbA1c shot up. Please monitor your daily readings carefully and consult your doctor about safe snack portions.

Beta, popcorn is dry and light, but it is still corn which has natural starch. Roasted chana or makhana is a much safer traditional snack for diabetes. If you want popcorn, have just a small handful of plain home-made ones.

When I visited my nutritionist at Apollo, she told me that plain air-popped popcorn is actually a decent fiber-rich snack. But she strictly warned against sweet or heavily buttered theater popcorn. Ask your doctor clearly about your specific daily carb limit.

Actually, two cups of plain popcorn have around 15 grams of carbs and good fiber, which is totally fine. I log my snacks on my health app and it fits perfectly into my macros. Just avoid the caramel and cheese flavors.

I eat home-popped plain popcorn all the time during movies. Just don't buy those instant microwave packets because they are loaded with bad fats. Cook it in a cooker with just a pinch of salt and olive oil.
