Managing conditions like high BP or diabetes requires a very disciplined lifestyle, timely meals, and regular medical checkups. In the military, you often don't have control over your schedule or food, which is why active-duty guidelines are so strict against it.

My cousin wanted to join the army so badly but was rejected due to his type 1 diabetes. It was tough for him, but honestly, the physical rigor of the military is extremely hard to manage with regular glucose monitoring. There are other amazing career paths out there!

If you are already in the service and then get diagnosed, rules are different and they might put you in a low medical category. But for new recruits, it is a strict no. Always get a clear medical assessment from official board doctors to be absolutely sure.

In our times, the physical tests were incredibly harsh and any chronic condition meant immediate disqualification. Don't let this discourage you at all. You can still contribute to the nation in civil services or other technical roles.

I know it feels disappointing if you had dreams of joining, but these medical rules are there for your own safety. A sudden drop in sugar during active training can be life-threatening. Focus on your health first, everything else comes later.

The military diet can be very unpredictable and high in simple carbs during field postings. For someone with diabetes, controlling blood sugar through diet alone is extremely tough under those conditions, which is why medical clearance is usually denied.
