Can orthopedic doctor treat arthritis?

My knees have been aching constantly and feel very stiff. My general physician said I might have arthritis and suggested seeing a specialist. Is an orthopedic doctor the right kind of specialist to treat arthritis?

Yes, they absolutely do, but if it is rheumatoid arthritis, you should see a rheumatologist instead of an ortho. Orthopedicians are great for osteoarthritis and joint wear issues.

My father went to an orthopedic doctor for his knee arthritis and got great relief with his treatment. They usually manage the joint wear and tear very well. That was our experience.

An orthopedic doctor can definitely guide you and prescribe basic joint supplements and exercises. It's a good first step, and they can tell you if you need a specialized rheumatologist later.

I am thinking of visiting an ortho for my finger joint pain. Has anyone else got their arthritis treated by an orthopedician, or did you have to visit a special rheumatologist? I'm a bit confused.

Yes beta, they can help manage the pain and joint issues. Just stay positive, do your daily gentle stretches, and let the doctor guide your recovery path.

They sure can! My aunt goes to one and he even gave her a diet chart to reduce inflammatory foods. Less of spicy pooris and more of anti-inflammatory stuff really helps along with his treatment.
