Can one develop asthma later in life?

Lately, I've been experiencing some breathlessness and wheezing, especially at night. I never had asthma as a child or young adult. Is it possible for someone to develop asthma later in life, after the age of 50?

Yes, late-onset asthma is quite common these days due to pollution and weather changes. While you must see a doctor for inhalers, you can drink warm ginger-tulsi tea in the morning to soothe your chest. Keep yourself warm and avoid very cold drinks.

My mother developed breathing issues at 50, and we went to Fortis Hospital. The pulmonologist clearly explained that adult-onset asthma is very real and can be triggered by allergies or stress. Please consult a specialist and get a proper spirometry test done.

Yes, our lungs can become sensitive as we age. Along with your doctor's prescribed medicines, practicing gentle pranayama like Anulom Vilom daily can help strengthen your respiratory system over time. Take care of your breathing.

With the pollution levels in metros, adult asthma is rising rapidly. If you are having a persistent cough or wheezing, don't ignore it thinking it is just a cold. Take a quick appointment with a doctor, get tested, and get the right treatment so it doesn't affect your daily work.
