Can not enough sleep effect students moods?

My younger sister always stays up late studying and barely gets 5-6 hours of sleep. She's been very moody and irritated lately. Can not getting enough sleep really affect students' moods this much?

Yes, absolutely. Lack of sleep directly causes irritability, anxiety, and a complete lack of focus in students.

Haan na, sleep pure mood ko kharab kar deti hai. My brother stays up late studying and gets so cranky and irritated the next day over small things. Proper sleep is very important for peace of mind, otherwise mental health gets affected.

Our pediatrician explained that chronic sleep deprivation impairs the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which regulates emotions and decision-making. This is why sleep-deprived students show high levels of stress, mood swings, and even symptoms of depression. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep is biologically essential for their mental well-being.

I am new here, but I noticed my mood has been really low and I get angry so easily during my exams because I only sleep for 4 hours. Does anyone know if taking short power naps during the day can help fix this moodiness?

While sleep loss definitely affects mood, persistent mood changes, severe anxiety, or deep sadness in a student shouldn't just be blamed on late nights. Please consult a qualified doctor or school counselor to ensure there isn't an underlying clinical issue like depression that needs attention.

It is so hard to watch kids struggle with mood swings due to exam stress and late nights. I started giving my son a warm cup of haldi-doodh before bed and massaged his feet with sesame oil. It really helped him fall asleep faster and stay calm and happy the next day.
