Can nitroglycerin stop a heart attack?

My father has heart issues and his doctor prescribed nitroglycerin tablets to keep handy. He asked me if it's meant to stop a heart attack completely if one happens. I want to understand more about how it works.

My husband was given this pill by our local doctor to keep in his pocket. It helps ease the chest pain quickly during an emergency, but you must take the patient to a hospital immediately. It doesn't stop the attack completely, but it gives valuable time.

Actually yaar, nitroglycerin only dilates blood vessels to relieve angina pain. It doesn't actually dissolve the clot causing the heart attack. So if someone is having an attack, call an ambulance immediately instead of just relying on the pill.

I am just reading about heart health for my parents. Does this pill have any side effects if taken during a false alarm, or should we only give it if we are 100% sure it's a heart attack?

My granddad uses it. It basically widens the blood vessels so the heart gets blood temporarily and the pain reduces, but it is not a complete cure. If someone has a severe attack, you have to rush them to the hospital right away.

When my father was admitted to Apollo hospital, the cardiologist clearly explained that nitroglycerin relieves the heavy chest pain but doesn't cure the heart attack itself. Please ask your doctor clearly about emergency protocols and what to do.
