Can newborns have asthma?

My husband has asthma, and sometimes our newborn seems to struggle a bit with breathing, especially at night. Is it possible for a baby so young to have asthma? We are really concerned and want to know what to look out for.

I love my heavy parathas, but when it comes to babies, everything is delicate. True asthma is rarely diagnosed in newborns because their lungs are so tiny, but they can get wheezing. Always consult a pediatrician if you notice rapid breathing.

True asthma is usually diagnosed a bit later in childhood, but newborns can definitely have wheezing or congestion! 🌸 Keep their room clean and dust-free. If you hear any whistling sound when they breathe, please show a doctor!

My son had heavy wheezing at 2 months, and we feared it was asthma, but our pediatrician explained it was a temporary viral respiratory issue. It is best not to guess and let a doctor examine their chest directly.

You can keep a warm-mist humidifier in the room to help clear a newborn's mild congestion. However, because baby lungs are very delicate, any whistling sound or breathing difficulty should be shown to a doctor right away.

No, formal asthma is rarely diagnosed in newborns, but they can suffer from respiratory infections. Please see a pediatrician for an accurate diagnosis.

At such a young age, it is hard to diagnose asthma, but they can have reactive airway issues. Keep all perfumes, agarbattis, and dust away from the baby's room. If they struggle to breathe or turn pale, go to the emergency immediately.
