Can newborn sleep in car seat?

We're planning a long road trip soon, and our newborn often falls asleep in his car seat. Is it okay for him to sleep in the car seat for extended periods? My wife is worried about his posture and breathing.

While it is tempting to let them sleep there because it is the only time they are quiet, it is not recommended for long periods. Their heavy heads can slump forward and block their airway. Better to ask your pediatrician about safe transit habits.

No, newborns should not sleep in a car seat once you are out of the car. It poses a risk of positional asphyxiation. Always transfer your baby to a flat, safe bassinet as soon as you reach home. Speak to your doctor if you have doubts.

Car seats are designed for travel safety, not for routine sleeping. Leaving a newborn asleep in one for too long can strain their developing neck and spine. Keep their sleep surface flat and firm, and check with your pediatrician for details.

My baby only loves sleeping in moving vehicles, but alas, the pediatricians say car seat sleeping for hours is a big no-no. It is exhausting to transfer them and wake them up, but safety first! Do consult your doctor about safe sleeping spots.

We just had a session with our baby's doctor about this. He strictly told us not to let the baby sleep in the car seat outside of travel because of the angle. We always move him to his flat crib now. Please consult your pediatrician.

As a rule of thumb, only use the car seat for actual travel. When baby sleeps in it during a drive, keep a close eye on their head position. But for regular sleep at home, always use a flat crib. Check with your pediatrician for safe practices.
