Can my newborn sleep on my chest?

My baby just arrived, and I love holding him close. Sometimes he falls asleep on my chest while I'm sitting up, and it feels so sweet. Is it okay for a newborn to sleep like that, or is it risky? I want to make sure he's safe.

It feels so sweet and warm to have them sleep on your chest, I did it a lot with my baby! But only do it when you are fully awake. If you feel sleepy, please put the baby back in their crib or on a flat bed so they stay safe.

It's great for bonding, but safety first. If you are tired from working out or daily chores, don't risk falling asleep with the baby on you. Keep your back supported and only do it while you are fully active.

Skin-to-skin contact is wonderful for newborns, but sleep experts and pediatricians warn against falling asleep with them on your chest due to suffocation risks. Always consult your pediatrician about safe sleep guidelines for your baby.

It is fine for contact naps while you are awake and sitting up straight, maybe doing some light reading. But never fall asleep yourself. When you need to sleep or go for your daily walk, make sure the baby is safe in a proper cot.

Don't listen to random people on social media saying it is completely safe. Falling asleep with a newborn on your chest is a major risk factor for SIDS. Verify safe sleep habits directly with your pediatrician.

Please be very careful with this. I had a scare when my baby slipped slightly while we both nodded off. It is much safer to place them on a firm, flat mattress on their back. If you are unsure, ask your doctor for safe co-sleeping tips.

In our times, we held our babies on our chest for comfort, and it indeed calms them down beautifully. But we always had other family members watching. If you are alone, keep them on a flat mattress next to you for safety.

It is a divine feeling to hold your baby close to your heart, and it gives them so much peace. Just take care that you don't fall asleep while holding them. Keep a happy, positive mind and follow what is safest for the child.

Our pediatrician explicitly told us that sleeping on the chest is only okay during active skin-to-skin care when the parent is wide awake. They warned that if the parent falls asleep, the risk of positional asphyxia increases significantly.

Having your little one rest on your chest is a beautiful, peaceful experience that connects your breathing. Just practice this gently during the day while you are sitting in a meditative, upright posture, and place them in their crib for night sleep.

I would advise checking with your hospital's neonatal nurse or doctor about safe sleep practices before doing this. Newborns have very weak neck muscles and their airway can easily get blocked if they slide down.

Contact sleep is great for regulating baby's heart rate, but only when you are awake to monitor them. If you start feeling drowsy, please transition them to a flat surface on their back. Safety always comes first with newborns.
