Can mouthwash reverse cavities?

An advertisement for a new mouthwash claimed it can strengthen teeth and prevent cavities. My dentist told me I have a small cavity. Can using a special mouthwash actually reverse a cavity that's already there?

I have been using a fluoride mouthwash daily hoping it would fix my early-stage cavity because I am terrified of dental drills. Has anyone actually successfully reversed a cavity with just mouthwash, or am I just wasting my time?

I totally get it, going to the dentist is super stressful and we all want an easy home fix. But honestly, once a proper cavity forms, mouthwash can't reverse it, it can only help prevent new ones. It is best to get it filled before it starts hurting.

Actually yaar, mouthwash can only help in remineralizing very initial stage soft spots, but once there is a physical hole, no mouthwash can magically fill it up. You have to visit a dentist and get a proper filling done, seriously.

As someone who cannot live without sweet gulab jamuns, I have tried every anti-cavity mouthwash in the market! Believe me, once the sweet stuff creates a real cavity, only a dentist can fix it. Mouthwash is just good for fresh breath after eating.

I agree with the others. Regular brushing, flossing, and a dentist visit are the only real ways to handle active cavities.

When I went to Manipal Hospital for my checkup, my dentist clearly told me that mouthwash cannot reverse tooth decay once it passes the enamel. Don't rely on advertisements, ask your dentist clearly during your next cleaning.

I always try to be cautious with health claims because our bodies are sensitive, especially with hormonal issues like PCOS affecting oral health. Mouthwash is great for hygiene, but it won't cure a deep cavity. Please consult your dentist for a proper checkup.

In our days, we did oil pulling with sesame oil and brushed with neem twigs to keep teeth strong. While mouthwash is popular now, it cannot repair a damaged tooth once decay sets in. You must visit a dental doctor for treatment.
