Can mold cause mental health issues?

Since we moved into this new house, which feels a bit damp, I've been feeling unusually anxious and low, even having trouble concentrating. My friend told me that mold exposure can affect your mind. Could mold really be linked to mental health problems?

Actually, my physician explained that toxic mold releases mycotoxins which can cause chronic systemic inflammation. This inflammation can sometimes affect the brain, leading to brain fog, anxiety, and sleep issues. It sounds crazy, but cleaning up the physical environment is highly necessary if you feel unexplained mood changes while living in a damp room.

I track my sleep and heart rate variability daily, and I noticed my stress levels spiked and sleep quality dropped when my bedroom wall had a mold outbreak last monsoon. The mold spores trigger low-grade physical stress which definitely affects your mental health. Try tracking your sleep and see if a cleaner room helps your mood.

Living in a damp, smelly house with constant mold can definitely make you feel irritated, tired, and anxious. While it might not directly cause severe psychiatric illnesses, the constant physical discomfort and poor sleep from allergies will ruin your mental peace. Do yourself a favor and get your rooms properly aired out.

If you are experiencing severe anxiety or mood changes and suspect mold, please visit a reputed hospital and consult a specialist. It's easy to read articles online and blame everything on environmental toxins, but only a doctor can run proper tests and tell you if it's the mold or something else.

Oh god, I always worry about this because our basement flat gets so damp! I read that mold toxins can actually mess with your nervous system and cause terrible panic attacks and brain fog. It is so scary to think about. Please check your walls and get them cleaned immediately just to be safe!
